Country Ham Project
It’s time to sign up for the 2024 4-H Country Ham Project. Enclosed is the registration form. This is such a great project! Participating includes three trips to Clifty Farms in Scottsville late March to early August of 2024. All meetings are held on a weeknight at 6:00 p.m. Transportation is on your own. The cost to participate is free for Simpson Co. youth thanks to the annual Ham Auction. If you choose to participate for free you keep one ham and 4-H gets one of the hams you cured. You may also pay $20 to complete the project and keep both hams you cure. Adults and Cloverbuds (must be ages 5-8) may also participate for $20 and you will receive one ham (the state only allows 4-H age youth to cure two hams) and do not attend the state fair.
Participants ages 9-18, in addition to the three curing trips to Clifty Farms you MUST also attend the KY State Fair on August 15 and give a 3-5 minute speech on the assigned ham topic (see contract). Giving the speech is required to complete the project or you will not receive either ham cured. Transportation to the state fair is on your own but participants do receive a $50 stipend toward your state fair expenses. The contract is due to the Simpson Co. Extension Office by Monday, December 11. Contact Catherine with questions.
